Petition to protect women from violence in Kurdistan and Iraq

9.29.17am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th May 2007

A young girl of 17 was publicly stoned to death for falling in love with the 'wrong' man, while the local authorities stood by and watched. This is just one example of the brutality to which Kurdish and Iraqi women are exposed, daily.

Killings, suicide, and violence against women are an every day occurrence in this region. Women have few rights, and are often killed, raped and beaten. Many resort to suicide to escape such a reality.

A coalition of women's groups, journalists and campaigners are calling for international condemnation of these atrocious acts. To join in supporting them please visit http://www.petitiononline.com/kurdish/petition-sign.html and add your name to their petition.
